2010 Essay Contest

Rules and Registration:

1.     All essays must be glorifying to God.

2.     All essays must be written by the student in the current school year (2009 – 2010).

3.      Essay must conform to the specifications for the category in which it is entered.

4.      Entries must be postmarked by January 8, 2010.

        (Entries postmarked after this date will  be disqualified. Mail to IAHE, P.O.  530, New Palestine, IN 46163.)

5.     Essays must be neat and easy to read, on white paper, with a cover sheet. The title of the essay

       should be included on the essay. Essays can be typed or hand written.

6.     Essays will be duplicated and mailed to the judges. Please do not include fancy folders, covers, pictures, etc. that would need to be removed.

7.     Include the following information ONLY on the cover sheet:

  • Title of Essay

  • Student’s Name

  • Grade/Age (mm/yy)

  • Total Number of Words

  • Address, City, State & Zip

  • Phone Number

  • Date

  • (Only Title should be on the actual essay.)

     

    8. The student’s name should appear only on the cover sheet. Anonymity will assure objectivity in judging the essays. Note: Essays that do not conform to the word count requirement will be disqualified. Note word count for each category.

     

    9. There will be a Champion, Reserve Champion, and Honorable Mention in each category. Every entry will receive a certificate of participation. Essays will be on display at the convention.

    10.     Wnners will be notified by February 10, 2010. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded for Champion and Reserve Champion at the 24th Annual IAHE Home Educators Convention February 27, 2010.

     

    Essay Topic: He Will Rest in His Love”

     

    Grades 9-12

    In 750 words or less, answer this question:

    Read Isaiah 40:28–31 and Zephaniah 3:17. How do you find rest, waiting on the Lord, during troubled times?Grades 6-8

    In 400 words or less, answer this question:

     

    Read James 5:7-8 and Isaiah 40:28–31. What is the effect of waiting on the Lord for you or your family?

    Grades 2-5

    In 200 words or less, answer this question.

     

    Read Zephaniah 3:17. How is God mighty in your family life?

     

    Essays will be scored on:

  • Content and original thought

  • Organization and presentation

  • Word choice, fluency, and voice

  • Ability to catch the reader’s attention and make the reader think.
